Village of Nelliston and Village of Palatine Bridge Launch Joint Comprehensive Plan Process
NELLISTON & PALATINE BRIDGE, NY – The Village of Nelliston and the Village of Palatine Bridge are pleased to announce the official launch of a joint Comprehensive Plan process. The two Villages have retained a consultant team led by LaBella Associates to assist in preparing the Plan, which will serve as a long-range policy framework to guide future growth, revitalization, infrastructure investment, and preservation efforts in both communities. The planning effort is supported by a NYS Department of State Smart Growth Comprehensive Planning grant.
A Comprehensive Plan is a long-term policy document that establishes a community-driven vision for the future, typically over a 5 to 10 year horizon. It evaluates existing conditions and trends, identifies key issues and opportunities, and outlines goals and implementation strategies related to land use, housing, economic development, transportation, infrastructure, natural resources, historic and cultural assets, and community services. Once adopted, the Plan becomes an essential tool for local decision-making, zoning updates, capital planning, and pursuit of state and federal funding opportunities.
The Villages have appointed a Joint Comprehensive Plan Committee to help guide the planning process. The Committee includes Village officials, stakeholders, and community representatives who will provide input on the Plan’s scope, schedule, focus areas, and public engagement strategy. While the Committee meetings will function as working sessions, members of the public will be welcome to attend, and an opportunity for public comment will be provided at the end of the meeting. Additional opportunities for community participation, including public workshops and other engagement activities, will be announced as the planning process progresses.
This joint effort reflects the close geographic, economic, and historic relationship between the Villages of Nelliston and Palatine Bridge. By working collaboratively, the Villages aim to develop a coordinated vision that strengthens Main Street, supports local businesses, enhances housing options, improves infrastructure, and preserves the character and heritage that define both communities.
